I am looking to take a class in DC or Northern VA on Digital SLR photography. Does anybody know of any reasonable schools ?

Don’t have a specific recommendation, but aren’t there any community colleges in the DC suburbs? Comm colleges almost always have this type of non-credit class, usually for a very reasonable price.

Well for 30k or less you can get Nikon D60,Sony Alphs 200,Canon 1000D.But it all depends on personal tastes because some like brighter shades of canon.Sony uses technology from minolta.So old minolta users might go for sony as they can use old minolta lenses on new sony body.Pentax is not so popullar as it was earlier.Its best advisable to but cheaperer body and spend more on the lenses because at the end of the day great pictures can only be taken with cameras with the bes lenses.

Believe me you don’t need any other guide other than Nikon’s included owner’s manual. Whatever doubts you may have, you can search on internet.
Instead of killing time reading multiple guides, take your camera out and start clicking. If you encounter any problems or need to understand something, search for that specific information or ask us here.

Overview
Jogi Motion Studio (Jogi Enterprise Limited) & Dhaka Film School (DFS) is going to launch “Workshop on Digital Photography & Digital Darkroom” a total of 10 Day Long Classes (Fridays Only 11 June 2010 to 30 July 2010) at Jogi Motion Studio premises. Participants will be able to learn the latest technology; techniques and art of digital photography including digital darkroom techniques (e.g. image retouching, HDR, Black and white conversion etc.). Students of this workshop will also have the opportunity to learn every single part of digital photography in diverse level. The workshop will be conducted by acclaimed photographers who have greater expertise in photography. All participants will receive a Certificate upon successfully completion of the workshop.

Mohammad Rakibul Hasan is a Bangladeshi born professional photographer and short film maker who graduated from UBS Film School, the University of Sydney, Australia. He currently holds around 50 International Awards in Photography and also two International Awards in Short Film. His photography has been published and exhibited in many countries. Sumon Yusuf
Sumon Yusuf started his career as a photojournalist for Daily Prothom Alo. Currently he works for BRAC as a photographer and communication officer. His documentary photo project on several indigenous communities has been appreciated internationally. He recently won CGAP Microfinance Photo Contest 2009, USA.
