Because in a few years I’m doing a photography course and the college I’m going to probablys won’t provide me with a camera

About £340 upwards for a new one, but watch for bargains because pricing is keen at the lower end of the market. Occasionally you can buy cheaper second-hand, but do get a friend who knows what they are doing to look over it before buying. Don’t buy yet, unless you want to get practice, because new models are always coming along, and ‘last year’s model’, still very competent, will be priced down.

All cameras will work with any printer that will print photos. Printers are not camera specific, nor are printers, camera specific.

While inkjet printers became obsolete in 2004 (Ken Rockwell, on color management) or so, they are still being produced for those who do not want to wait for their photos to come back from the lab or who love to print “adult” photos for their own amusement or their friends.

Prints made by photo labs cost less, look better and last much longer than any inkjet photo.

That said, you can spend a hundred dollars or so and much, much more in ink and paper over the life of the printer or you can edit your images, choose those you really want printed and then of less than $ .17 for a 4×6 print (over $ .50 if you print it yourself using your own inkjet printer).

Epson, HP, Canon, Kodak are the most well known photo printers.

Can any one tell me, how come the digital camera prices on rediff are cheaper than retail price given by the manufacturer? Are they inferior in quality or have some defects?

I can think of a couple of reasons why digital camera prices might be cheaper on some sites than others. Sometimes online or catalog stores get cameras at discount rates if they buy refurbished or Grey market models. If the cameras are refurbished, there is no telling what had been the reason they had been returned. If they are Grey market… and these are the models you want to stay away from… they have been imported from another country and do not carry a USA warranty. Should something go wrong with them… you have no protection. And a camera without USA warranty will be refused by the manufacturers repair facility, meaning you can never get an upgrade or have it cleaned or anything. If there is a camera you are interested in… don’t just order. Find the phone number and call so that you can ask… if the camera is refurbished or do it have a USA warranty. Don’t just buy it now and be surprised and disappointed later. Hope that was helpful. :) )

I have recently bought a Canon EOS 30 film camera and I wanted to buy more lenses but I’m not sure which ones to buy. I can use the same lenses as the digital Canon EOS versions?

Yes. But the focal length won’t be the same equivalent as the digital camera. But the lenses will fit.

Sorry I cannot tell which is the best but only give one small piece of advice get one that can take pictures quickly , ours if you try to take a photo of kids or animals by the time the camera does what it is supposed to do they have moved and you get a photo of nothing

Question by omg_maritza: what is the difference between a digital camera and an SLR?
I’m looking into buying an expensive camera and I noticed for nikon they offer a 12-megapixel digital camera for $ 100 dollars less then a 10.2-megapixel SLR camera.

Since I am Pretty much a camera newbie and really only know the higher the megapixel the better the picture, so my question is what is the difference between the two that I am missing here.

Which do you believe is the better buy?

the digital camera stores all the pictures on a memory card hence the name “digital”
while the SLR is like a DSLR (digital single lens reflex) but without the digital which means it uses the film which you have to go to the store and get it developed
DSLR’s and SLR’s take very good pictures
so , if my assumption about the digital camera being a compact camera is correct, you should get better pictures with the SLR , but remember you have to get it developed, so you won’t be able to put it on your computer or anything
